The Astana Declaration on PHC will reflect the UN sustainable development goals, said RK Health Minister Yelzhan Birtanov at the Global Conference on Primary Health Care, reports.

"The new declaration, first of all, reflects the spirit of the time and the political documents adopted during this period. First and foremost, these are the UN sustainable development goals. The Astana Declaration calls for making additional efforts of governments in the human capital development area, building systems oriented on the person, the application of new digital technologies and patient data, that is, the scientific and technological progress that has come during these forty years," explained Birtanov.

According to him, the Astana Declaration also plans to be more specific and demanding to the countries in terms of its implementation.

“Many participants today said that they could not fully implement the principles of the Declaration of Alma-Ata. In this regard, a large program was planned by the participating countries that supported the declaration, WHO, UNICEF to further promote the principles of this declaration and primary health care. This is about a fair and high-quality access to health services at the level of the UN General Assembly in 2019,” the minister concluded.

Recall that the grand opening of the Global Conference on PHC, marked by the 40th anniversary of the Alma-Ata Declaration, took place in Astana. During the conference, they adopted a new Astana Declaration on primary health care.

The conference is attended by 1,142 delegates from 146 countries, including 35 ministers and 21 vice-ministers.
