Kazakhstan is actively preparing for introduction of compulsory social health insurance, said Health Minister Yelzhan Birtanov at a meeting of the Government of Kazakhstan, Kazpravda.kz reports.

According to him, from January 1, 2020, the CSHI system should cover about 94.5% of the population.

"According to our forecasts, the number of independent payers will be about one million people, including 770 thousand non-actualized self-employed citizens. In this regard, regional governors need to take the necessary measures to update the self-employed and to attach the population to primary health care organizations by October 1, 2019", said the Health Minister.

He noted that the introduction of the GVFMC and CSHI package will increase the availability of medical care for the population, including for the socially vulnerable groups.

“Today, the law defines eight socially vulnerable categories of citizens for preferential medical services, including children, pregnant women, mothers of large families, retirees, etc. By 2020, when introducing the CSHI, the law will define 15 preferential categories of citizens. These persons will be insured by the state," he added.

He noted that the availability of a number of services will be expanded as part of the introduction of the CSHI. Including expensive diagnostic services, funding for them will increase by 3 times and for dental services by 2.3 times.
