The Health Ministry of Kazakhstan plans to purchase more than 4 thousand ventilators in case of the worst scenario with the coronavirus infection. This was announced by the Health Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aleksey Tsoi at an online meeting of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kazpravda.kz reports.

“Today in the country’s infectious and provisional hospitals there are 966 stationary ventilation devices, with 1,553 intensive care beds available. However, taking into account the forecast of the National Center for Public Health on development of the incidence of CVI in the whole country, about 6,365 intensive care beds, 4,092 stationary ventilators will be required, which will ensure the readiness of healthcare facilities even for the worst scenario,” the speaker said.

According to him, this need for 460 units in the amount of 5.5 billion tenge is proposed to be covered by redistribution of the World Bank’s loan funds, 409 units in the amount of 4.9 billion tenge - within the framework of funds and reserves of local budgets of regional akimats, which will be at least 10% of the additional need.

“It is proposed to buy more than 3,000 units worth 38.7 billion tenge from the government’s reserve from domestic manufacturers, taking into account the localization and launch of domestic production. According to the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development, the industrial production of ventilation devices will be launched in August, and the first batch in the amount of 595 units will be delivered to healthcare organizations," added the minister.
