A high burden on general practitioners is observed in several regions of Kazakhstan, said the Minister of Health of Kazakhstan Yelzhan Birtanov at the Government meeting, Kazpravda.kz reports.

"A high indicator of the burden on general practitioners was recorded in Kostanay, West Kazakhstan and Karaganda oblasts. Taking into account the planned reduction of workload in primary health care organizations, additional 1,157 doctors are needed. In order to resolve this issue, higher medical education institutions plan to graduate more than 5,000 doctors in 2019. 1515 of them are trained in the specialty of a general practitioner. This will completely cover the shortage of personnel," said Birtanov.

In general, he said, today the shortage of doctors is more than 1,044.

“There are more than 1,900 patients per one attached doctor, which exceeds the state standard. The Ministry of Health approved a plan of measures for implementation of the main directions of development of primary health care for 2019-2020. It is planned to reduce the burden on doctors and gradually increase the wages by 20 percent,” the Health Minister said.

In addition, Birtanov recalled that at the instruction of the Head of State from June 1, 2019, it is planned to increase the salaries of low-wage workers by 30 percent.
